Dan Fenstermacher

I am in my second (and last!!) year at Montgomery County Community College. Favorite class so far has to be any of the positing classes. My favorite site I been at for clinical was Einstein Medical Center in Montgomery. It was always busy which gave me a lot of practice but I liked it mostly because of the techs they have there. All friendly, willing to help and extremely knowledgeable about everything x-ray. I always wanted a job that I could help people in. I had tons of jobs in the service industry so a career in the medical field made perfect sense. Why I choose x-ray? Honestly, I thought it was cool; a great why to be the first step in someone’s’ recovery process. I feel in love with it the first day of clinicals. I currently work at Abington Hospital in their radiology file room! I learned about it from my director at my college. She told us it would be good start to join the ASRT right when we started classes last fall. Then I got a email about the SLDP and learn about our affiliate here in Philadelphia. I’m excited to meet the experts in my field and the other students from across the county. Just learning new things that are happening and upcoming. Learning about all the modalities and hopefully making great connections that could last me my professional lifetime. My goals are to graduate in 2021, start working at a hospital and then continuing my education. Whether going for CT or MRI, getting a bachelors’ degree in Health service management, or going into radiation therapy. I have a lot of options I think and look forward to narrowing them down to find out what I will really be passionate about.

I am a second-year senior at Holy Family University in Philadelphia, PA. My favorite subject in your medical imaging education is the Procedures class because I have always found Anatomy interesting and it is the combination of the anatomy and how to position to properly image the anatomy. I loved both of my clinical sites I have been at which were Temple University’s Episcopal campus and St Mary’s Medical Center. I loved being in the OR. Getting to work with the nurses and surgeons made me feel part of the team and made me feel important. Being able to make a difference in a person’s life by helping in their diagnosis is a big deal for me. A lot of people don’t understand how important the Radiologic Technologist is on the healthcare team. I am not currently working but I have worked in retail since I was 16 years old. I learned about the ASRT at the start of the program last year and, through emails learned about the SLDP. I explored the different affiliates through research and found the PhilaSRT. I look forward to learning about the different modalities and gain knowledge from experienced technologists at the upcoming SLDP meeting in Nevada. I feel extremely honored to have been chosen to experience this. My career goal is to continue learning and growing in the radiology field. I want to specialize in as many modalities as I can. I want to be well rounded and be able to help out wherever I can in a hospital setting. I just want to constantly grow my skills.  I am a single mom and I just want to be the best role model for my daughter and show her that with hard work and determination you can be successful and find a fulfilling career.
